Yoga with Elli Westmoreland White 21.12.2020

This is always a wonderful event...don't let the number of sun salutations intimidate you! You can move at your own pace and the rhythm of the movement, the live music, and energy of everyone around you draws you into a deeply meditative space.

Sometimes in guided meditations you receive direction to observe thoughts like leaves flowing down a river. I love this image and I remember one time a couple o...f years ago I was picking up leaves at a Winchester Business for a landscaping job and I was so overwhelmed by the amount of thoughts running through my head and most of them were negative. I remember always attempting to avoid negativity while trying to think positively about myself and my life. It was while I was picking up these leaves that I decided that I was not going to control my thoughts anymore and I was going to let go of the fight with my negativity. This was a great lesson from the leaves, they are just like thoughts let them go. So just remember as the leaves begin to fall to the ground and the rivers fill up with them allow your positive and negative thoughts to flow. You may find that your ability to accept and listen is far greater than the need to change and control. So much of our tension can be released by letting go of the struggle with our thoughts. In my practice I have had a lot of conversations with people about needing to work or do something in order to be loved by other people. I always ask these peop...le to remember someone who loved them unconditionally whether it is a grandparent, mother, father, uncle, aunt, or friend. When we remember someone that loved us unconditionally it is a constant reminder that we do not have to work for love. We are loved simply because we exist. Try to remember today what it felt like to be loved by someone with out having to do anything to earn it. See more

Yoga in the Barn at Capon Crossing Farm THIS Saturday, June 10, 10-11am. All levels welcome! $10/person (or barter!) See you there It's the busy time of year for me, and recently I've felt kind of hectic and scattered. This feeling makes me all the more grateful for having a practice of stepping on my mat and moving through that stress, slowing down and deepening my breath, and reminding myself that this is what is most important, not all the outside "stuff" that weighs me down. Reconnecting helps me greet my day with confidence, rather than feeling like life is dragging me along. Yoga Sutra 1.2: Yoga chitta vritti nirodha: yoga is the stilling of the movement of the mind.

Yoga in the Barn at Capon Crossing Farm tomorrow (Friday)! 6:15-7:15pm! $10/person (or barter!) See you there! This is me trying to correct my rounded shoulders in chaturanga dandasana. I've been working with it for so long (13+ years!) and the nuances still challenge me (which is WHY yoga is referred to as a "practice"). We can work with these same poses for years and still learn something new about both the physical postures and ourselves. Thanks to Christa Jala Yoga for the tip on getting into the pose from balasana, which helps to ease the body forward and open the heart. Still working on it!

I apologize for the last minute notice, but a schedule conflict has come up for me and I am going to have to postpone yoga in the barn to NEXT Friday, May 26th, 6:15-7:15pm. (I have had several scheduling conflicts with other things I'd tried to plan for this weekend, so I am just surrendering to the universe apparently signaling to me I've just tried to pack too much into these couple of days!) If you are in the area, I hope you'll start your Memorial Day weekend off with some Yoga at Capon Crossing Farm!
