Because of the popularity of the many various styles of yoga Asana (posture) practice, confusions have arisen from people saying "all yoga is about poses" and "only my way of doing postures is authentic" to "anyone doing poses isn't doing REAL yoga" After many students asking us questions related to this, we have written these three articles, explaining the paths of yoga, and the original meaning of 'Hatha' and the various styles of yoga. http://pranayoga.co.in/asana/paths-of...-yoga/ http://pranayoga.co.in/asana/what-is-hatha-yoga/ http://pranayoga.co.in//clarification-all-posture-based-y/

Mind in Yogic terms is not just the Brain but a combination of four faculties also called Antahkarana (the inner conscience) Manas - Records the impressions ga...thered by the senses. Buddhi - Intellect, makes decisions. Chitta - Store house of memory and impressions of actions, patterns. Ahamkara - Ego, identity Buddhi (our intelligence) always suggests us the right thing to do but the manas (which stores the impressions gathered by the senses) might suggest otherwise. An example - The Buddhi of a Diabetic person will suggest not to eat sugary thing, but the taste of sugar and the feeling afterwards, is registered by Manas which suggests to eat that sugary thing and our mind comes up with every possible story to fulfill that desire. The idea is not to say that Manas is bad, it definitely provides us a lot of information, but we should train ourselves to use our Buddhi to act on those information's properly, creating a balance between the two.
