"While media attention and advertising images focus almost entirely on white people doing yoga, people of color are quietly doing some important and amazing work in this industry. They are on the cutting edge of movement science and self-empowerment through body positivity. They are building inclusive communities and spaces that extend the yoga practice into people’s day-to-day lives. They provide healing to marginalized and often forgotten or neglected communities (i.e. the elderly, new moms, the incarcerated, and women of color, just to name a few). This was a helpful piece for me, as I continue to work at honoring the practice of yoga, and understanding my place as a teacher and student: https://www.yogajournal.com//yoga-cultural-appropriation-a

I’m just returning home from a 5-day intensive with @offthemat (Yoga, Purpose, and Action 2.0). It feels important to share, though I’m still processing. These past few months have been a time of re-examining my relationship to yoga, in teaching and in practice - I’m still sitting with a lot of questions, but I can feel some pieces finding their way into place, and I am hopeful. Sitting with wise, informed, aware, humble teachers like @seanecorn @halayoga and @suzannesterlinglive was medicine, perfectly timed. #yoga #liberation #empowerment #socialjustice #inclusivity #healing #selfreflection #change #trauma : @halayoga and offthematintotheworld.org @ CITYOGA School of Yoga and Health

Happy New Year, friends! Sat nam! For those of you setting an intention for daily practice in 2019 - this free video from my teacher, Wah Khalsa, is a great way to start! Surya Kriya makes for a lovely morning practice, focusing on the third chakra (personal power, motivation, and purpose) and the get-up-and-go energy of the sun. Plus, at just 32 minutes, it feels manageable to work into the morning schedule The trade-off with a short practice is that there isn't a lot of ...in-depth instruction (which is nice, if you're following it every day!). If you're new to Kundalini yoga, remember that 3ho.org is a great resource for information - and I'm happy to answer questions here, as well Enjoy, and let me know if there is anything I can do to support your practice ~ wahe guru! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aBiPyEMoVY&feature=youtu.be
